Cupping therapy uses silicone or pump cups to create physiological responses via vacuum effect. These are negative pressure locally, vasodilation, or widening of the blood vessels, and enhanced fluid exchange in the tissues. It can affect tissue as far as 10 cm into the human body.
Modern cupping therapy uses a gentler approach than traditional cupping therapy known in many cultures for centuries. At Annex Clinic we use either modern or traditional approach depending on the condition and patient preference. When cups are used gentler or moved during the application, it mitigates the significant cup marks typically seen after application.
Cupping therapy helps to resolve adhesions, trigger points and fascial restrictions, and it creates warmth in the body. At Annex Clinic we often apply it as part of chiropractic, acupuncture and massage treatments to stimulate enhanced healing responses.
